"...for pleasure we listen to arrangements of sound, press our lips together, smoke dried leaves, get drunk off of old fruit. we're all just little animals, falling in love and having breakfast beneath billions of stars" - youphoric
Is it too hard to treat other people with common decency? No one deserves to die, this should not be this hard.
With the late Alton Sterling and what has happened in Dallas, five officers were shot in a sniper attack, we need to cling and hang on to whatever scrap of good can be gleaned from these horrible tragedies. In times like these the good of humanity somehow manages to shine through in one way or another. In Dallas they were peacefully protesting the excessive use of police force that happened on Friday in Louisiana and Minnesota. After the first shots rang out people were ducking for cover and police were shielding the protesters, getting them to safety. Following the first shots the protesters were sharing phones to call loved ones and asking the names of the people around them to put on social media so their loved ones could more easily find them. Now people are standing with the police department, the people they were protesting against the night before. There is no simple way to boil this down to a nice point that can easily be fixed, it is simply impossible. But, the support and care by every person at that rally when the shots were taken place and the rally that is happening now should be the main focus of every new station. We shouldn’t talk about the shooter and go into his or her history the focus should be on the victims and the hero’s over the past few days. Thank you to the police officers and first responders, thank you to the peaceful protesters, thank you to the people paying their respects.
